Surely it's about proof. If what is defined as a virus along with it's claimed properties of cellular infection,self reproduction and cross infection,not to forget mutation cannot be isolated and presented for inspection then what is the basis for stating that such a thing actually exists?

It's heartening to know that one virologist, over sixty years across the entire planet doubts the field that he has studied. Or should that makes us wonder if the debunkers actually understand the field that they are debunking. Most of them misapply Koch's postulates, talk about the Spanish Flu from over a 100 years ago, or pick on low hanging fruit like HIV and AIDS. Do viruses really not exist? Do are debunkers even grasp that we have a virome and more viral DNA than human? Is it time to apply Occam's Razor?
Occam's Razor? When it it not a good time to apply Occam's Razor for anything and everything in life? I am not sure what your point is exactly. Of course all "debunkers" are merely ignorant persons with an agenda they seek to impose. Debunkers of "virology" are not trained virologists, ergo they cannot know the field they are supposedly debunking. But they do know how to smell a rat, even if they cannot identify it. In academic virology, the a priori problems are ontological. Is a virus to be considered the virion or is it the intracellular process of replication, which is a dynamic process as opposed to a "thing" which could be "isoloated and purified"? For that definitional wobble, virologists can argue that Koch's postulates do not apply to viruses. A second ontological problem is the question of parasitism versus symbiosis. At what point and by what metric do we decide that a phage is a predator of bacteria and not a collaborator? How come some viruses live inside bacteria and others prey on them? How is it that most of our DNA has viral origins, and if this is true, then are we not to be seen ontologically as giant, more complex extensions of viruses (our progenitors and primal ancestors)? If all this is so, then from where did we derive the simplistic notion of an infectious microorganism such as a coronavirus? Who came up with such a concept and CUI BONO? Why did virology originally confuse infectious agents with mere proteins? For that matter, how come a protein (in the form of a prion) can self replicate within neurons and do more damage than most retroviruses? How come the prion portion of the HIV lipid capsule turns up again in the hypothetical structure of the Sars-CoV 2 spike through furin cleavage? (I do not know what you mean by describing HIV as a low lying fruit.) Most important is the gain-of-function stuff where viruses have been chosen to graduate into weapons of mass destruction and re-invented as computer code than can be programmed into nano-materials. I think that this is probably what is ticking the debunkers off most. Lastly, since viruses are confused with exosomes, does this imply that viruses have a genuine role to play in the detoxing of cells as opposed to commandeering them for their own destructive purposes? Many questions, few clear cut answers, with or without Occam's Razor.
Nicholas, these are mostly fantastic questions and observations and I am in general agreement with a lot of it. I would contrast this with the neo terrain crowd who totally lack the nuance and sophistication, and deep understanding that you bring to these questions. When I called HIV "low hanging fruit," what I meant is that it is relatively easy to cast doubt on the official Orthodox narrative of HIV/AIDS, at the very least through Duesberg's work. Your points about GOF and coronaviruses are valid. I agree. The debunkers though are not making this assessment. They are mainly stating that the observed phenomenon is due to 5G or "toxins" which they never quite define or suggest how to test for. Also good points about prions - very concerning - and phages.

It stated that Louis Pasteur won out against his terrain theory because it could be corrupted as a medical model for fear and profit. Beauchamp was thrown to the wolves and ostracized. Who made the decision for germ theory? The French medical community. And here we are.
